Mail Call: A Soldier’s Life Line

I’ve had many soldiers tell me when they returned home from combat that the thing that kept them going while they were away were the letters from home.  Especially if they had a spouse and children at home.  They looked forward to mail call, hoping that there would be a letter from a loved one.  If they happened to get a piece of mail, they would rip open the envelope and slowly digest each and every word.  They didn’t flippantly read it like the Sunday morning sports page.  They were engrossed in the letter.  Every word was precious to them.  They would read it over and over again because it reminded them of home and the reason they were fighting.  Believers are engaged in a great spiritual warfare, and they have a love letter from home just waiting to be read.  Our Father, God, and our bridegroom to be, Jesus Christ, have penned us a letter that talks of our home in heaven and reminds us of the reason we’re fighting.  Proverbs 30:5 says, “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.”  The words of our letter should be precious to us – every word is pure.  The Bible is God’s love letter to you.  It’s the thing that will keep you going when life gets tough.  It keeps us connected with the one who truly loves us.  Read it thoroughly and read it over and over again.  You don’t have to wait for mail call to get a letter from home.  You can turn to God’s word any time, day or night.  Don’t waste God’s precious gift – open the letter and start reading.
